The Sweetness of God the Father

Many – especially in this postmodern day and age - think that God the Father is a myth both belonging solely in, and Who should be confined to, the historical books of Scripture which are regarded as sociocultural constructions of meaning rather than immutable and universal Truth. Others believe that God the Father is inaccessible, thinking that He has spoken only through the prophets and through His Son, throughout all the centuries and the years that have gone by. Even more others fear the Father as that, at times, vengeful and irate God predominant in the Old Testament and Who Is often portrayed as tending toward annihilating everybody whenever His Wrath is aroused by people’s prideful lack of repentance. Others regard Him as ’that white-bearded old Guy’ Who tends to be represented so often in many artists’ paintings.

However Our Father is none of the above! God the Father is very much alive, the Almighty of heaven and earth, Whose Being is timeless (hence ageless) and Who looks no different than His Son. In reality Our Father is beautiful, with His beauty being breathtaking, as well as infinitely vigorous and sweet. In fact sweetness is the most defining felt characteristic of God the Father’s presentation within the context of His intimate relationships with His children. Our Father has not stopped speaking to His children, both indirectly and even directly, because His greatest delight is in being intimate with His children, in order to fulfill His true function as Father. God the Father is firm, as any true Father should be, but very sweet, tender, and incredibly generous – in fact whenever we give Him something, He will not be outdone in generosity, showering us in return with gifts we cannot begin to fathom even in our wildest dreams. Our Father also has a great, although subtly playful, sense of humor as well as an infinite fount of immeasurable Love.
