“When the Lord has washed away the filth of the daughter of Zion and cleansed Jerusalem of the blood shed in her with the blast of judgment and the blast of destruction, Yahweh will come and rest on the whole stretch of Mount Zion and on those who are gathered there, a cloud by day and smoke, and by night the brightness of a flaring fire. For, over all, the glory of Yahweh will be a canopy and a tent to give shade by day from the heat, refuge and shelter from the storm and the rain” (Is 4:4-6).
“For Judah rejoiced in the officiating priests and Levites. It was they who performed the liturgy of their God and the duties of purification – and the cantors and gatekeepers too – in accordance with the ordinances of David and his son, Solomon. For from ancient times, from the days of David and Asaph, there had been guilds of cantors and canticles of praise and thanksgiving to God” (Neh 12:44-46).
To be a child of God means to be an adoptive member of the Divine Family.
When we become children of the living God by taking steps to rediscover our true heritage and giving the Almighty Father our fiat with sincerity of heart, in essence and in fact, we become adoptive members of the Divine Family. The Family – the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and, yes, even the Mother* – take us in. They take us into Their Hearts and envelop us in Their bosom, showering us with all we need to become gods by grace (2 P 1:4; Ps 82:6). (more…)
How beautiful and incomparable is the Kingdom of Pure Love! Oh, if everyone knew what it was like! Yet many of us still do not know that it is very real and others do not want to know. What we are missing out on, as a human family! If only we opened our hearts, just a little. Yet grace is required to do so and many do not want grace, even though it is free for the asking. That is the situation (more…)
Deification is the attaining of likeness to God and union with Him so far as is possible (Dionysus the Aeropagite, EH 1. 3, PG 3. 376a).
God, you see, wants to make you a god; not by nature, of course, like the One whom He begot but by His gift and by adoption (Augustine of Hippo, Sermon 166.4).
Deification or the “divinization of the Christian is not an identification with God [but] an assimilation, a very eminent restoration of the original divine likeness [through a process where one] participates by grace in the perfections that God possesses by nature” (Gross, 1936/2003). Deification results (more…)
“Have mercy on us, O God of all, and behold us; show us the light of Your mercies. Send Your fear upon the nations that have not sought after You: that they may know that there is no God beside You; and that they may show forth Your wonders. Lift up Your hand over the strange nations, that they may see Your power. For as You have been sanctified (more…)
“Whoever prays for the coming of the kingdom of God within himself is praying rights, praying for the kingdom to dawn in him, bear fruit and reach perfection. For God reigns in every saint, and every saint obeys God’s spiritual laws – God, who dwells in him just as He dwells in any well-ordered city. The Father is present in him and in his soul Christ reigns alongside the Father, as it is said: ‘We (more…)
“In that day shall the growth of the Lord be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the land excellent and comely for them that are escaped of Israel. And it shall come to pass that he that is left in Zion, and he that remains in Jerusalem shall be called holy, even every one that is written unto life in Jerusalem; when the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and shall have purged th (more…)
Purification in the desert is an ascent, for all our untoward attachments are removed so the Holy Trinity – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – can come and live in us. If we are not thoroughly purified this way, how can we open ourselves up sufficiently for Them to come and live in us with power and might? Perfect light and life cannot dwell where darkness resides. This is why we are presently being (more…)
“The lowly will inherit the earth and delight in abounding peace” (Response from Afternoon Prayer, The Divine Office, Weds. of Wk 23).
The earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea (Hab 2:14)
“The angel came to speak to me and said, ‘Come here and I will show you the bride that the Lamb has married.’ In the Spirit, he took me to the top of an enormous high mountain and showed me Jerusalem, the holy city, coming down from God out of Heaven. It had all the radiant glory of God and glittered like some precious jewel of crystal-clear diamond. the walls of it were of a great (more…)
The following aptly describes the process by which we become capable of worshipping God the Father in Spirit and in Truth (cf. Jn 4:23-24), as He so longingly and longstandingly desires:
“God descends to man in two senses, although simultaneously. By one descent He places in us an activity of divine love for Him, by the other He opens Himself up before our love, which is from (more…)
