THE HERESY OF PE’OR

I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness, I saw your fathers as the first-ripe in the fig-tree at her first season. But as soon as they came to Ba’al-Pe’or, they separated themselves unto the shameful thing and became detestable like that which they loved  (Hos 9:10).

Phinehas was the grandson of Aaron, the brother of Moses (Ex 6:25). He distinguished himself by risking his life to end the heresy of Pe’or and make reparation to HaShem for it, after the people of Israel had bought into the heresy lock, stock and barrel. Zachariah’s canticle to God the Father

He has raised up for us a mighty savior in the house of David his servant, as he promised by the lips of holy men, those who were his prophets from of old. A savior who would free us from our foes, from the hands of all who hate us. So his love for our fathers is fulfilled and his holy covenant remembered.
